The Dimaporos, starting with former governor Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo and congressman Bobby Dimaporo, placed Tubod on the sports map when they hosted the 1st Mindanao Friendship Games in 2001 at the impressive Mindanao Civic Center.
After that, sports events have been organized in that former war-torn area.
Now, another big sports event is happening this month organized through the initiative of their young son and new governor.
The Mindanao Civic Center is the venue of the Maskulino Pilipino National Bodybuilding Championships on November 20.
Asian bodybuilding federation judge Beethoven Sur would really want to attend but he is busy doing important tasks as corporate affairs manager of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. in Davao City.
Nevertheless, Sur said that they are very happy that Lanao del Norte governor Khalid Dimaporo brought the national championships to Mindanao.
The young governor intends also to host an international competition and negotiations have already started this early with World Bodybuilding Physique Sports Federation secretary-general and president of Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation president Paul Chua.
“This will definitely be a big boost for Mindanao as the event will showcase the best bodybuilders in the Asian region,” Sur said.
By the way, a total of P300,000 in prizes are up for grabs for the winners in the professional male, female figure, small, medium and tall male amateurs categories in the national championships and we know for sure that bigger prizes will be up for grabs if the international tournament pushes through.
I hope negotiations won’t bog down. Right, Mr. Sur?
